If they hurt, they need pain medication. Hip dysplatia is something that I dealt with in my German Shepherd and Golden Retriever. (I would not give Rimadyl of a Retriever EVER)M. K. My dog is on injectable glucosamine in the form of adequan which has been the reason that I have not actually had to put her on pain medication until now.Suzannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11784096526306604069noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3087791387260659386.post-13294068432457012282016-03-12T08:14:57.829-08:002016-03-12T08:14:57.829-08:00Our senior dog Katie has had arthritis issues for ...Our senior dog Katie has had arthritis issues for several years now including a front leg limp. She was to the point of not even wanting to go for walks. We tried so many supplements and prescriptions, but nothing really helped more than a few months if at all, and we don't like the fact that many can ruin organs like the liver. We started her on Rejenease 15 months ago and it has been a miracle! The limp was gone in two weeks, and she loves walking. Metacam didn't do half as much, was much more expensive and is not good for the body. Several others we know have had similar results. It's available on Amazon. We swear by it but make sure and give the double dose the first month to get it working. It's awesome. My GBGV Lifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00281486885814998377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3087791387260659386.post-46582582484813570002016-03-12T07:27:17.395-08:002016-03-12T07:27:17.395-08:00It is definitely up to an individual to make their...It is definitely up to an individual to make their own decisions for their pets. However, there is no reason for dogs to be in pain given the times we live in with so many options, traditional or alternative.

I have done acupuncture in the past on her and I did not see a significant difference in her pain level.

I don't feel that I am "masking" my dog's pain by giving something to reduce joint inflammation, I'm helping alleviate my dog's pain. I could just go back to not giving her anything besides adequan and she would still be active and participate in normal activities, she would just do it until she couldn't move. I don't find that to be an ideal solution.Suzannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11784096526306604069noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3087791387260659386.post-92081410279684513042016-03-12T05:47:30.796-08:002016-03-12T05:47:30.796-08:00I think it is up to each pet owner whether and how...I think it is up to each pet owner whether and how to treat pain. You do not want to mask pain if it will cause more damage. Each situation is different. Have you thought about acupuncture? I know of people with aging pets who swear by it to reduce pain. That in combo with pain meds has helped.2browndawgshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15792375606466389228noreply@blogger.com
